What do you get when you throw together one liberal Arab (wait do those even exist?) one touring showgirl, and an innocent under-aged blonde bombshell - You get a stereotype-busting, cliche smashing set of solo performances. Five minute love affairs, romance in Argentina, drama-free thanksgiving, and days and days of guts vomiting out.... is this what its like to fall in love and come home?
For one night only, hear the answer from this unlikely combo of women.
About the Shows:
The Arab: Lisa K performs Arab Love Arab Freedom
Can Lisa as a first gen American tell her mom about her new relationship? Lisa’s mom always told her she could be whatever she wanted. Which was code for “become a doctor or a lawyer... then marry one”. So she did the next best thing.... skipped the doctor / lawyer part and went straight to a relationship - after all, she could do anything... right!? That might not have been what mom had in mind. Frankly, its not what Lisa had in mind either. Uh-oh - Lisa found love in the most unexpected place, and accidentally found herself in the process. This is a story about what it means to love, be in love, be loved, and all the messy delicious ambiguity that goes inbetween a love sandwich.
The Showgirl: Kellita performs "Ahhhhhhh"
What's Kellita doing puking all alone in Buenos Aires?
How far does she have to travel for a hug?
And how many times does she have to circle the globe before Kellita finally comes home?
She explores this and more in her piece titled "Ahhhhhhh".
The Blonde: Rebecca Marshall performs Coming of Age
What happens when the young blonde decides to speak out?
What does it mean to grow up? Why does she have to do it so fast?
Why does this epic coming of age story have to be so... epic?
About the Performers:
Lisa K - Here she is… Ms. America. Only Shorter. And she’s never really been in any beauty pageants. Lisa is a woman of many faces, she is a performer, an actress, musician, writer, and a marketing content strategist for small businesses. When she’s not obsessively capturing her life online she is the digital voice for numerous small businesses, helping them expanding their audience and reach through the web. She feels like the world works better when there is joie de vivre, laughter, and a wee bit of mischief. To catch up with Lisa, and join her in her latest antics and hyperbolic tangents, you can visit her here online: @lisakotecki on twitter, and www.facebook.com/lisakotecki
Rebecca Marshall - She's asked what she does besides theatre. Her response: I don't understand the question. Actually, she loves to do plenty of things like surfing, animal care, and running around with small children, or JCing. Though, theatre takes up most of her time. She's done 8 shows: Girl on the Roof, Flashmob, Small Things, To Be Determined, Six Characters in Search of an Author, Gruesome Playground Injuries, Romeo and Juliet, I'm Alright, and The Matchmaker. This is her first solo performance piece.
Kellita wants to live in a world where hugs are plentiful, mind-body-spirit splits are few, and streets are reserved for dancing. She is a showgirl, performing artist, and metaphysician. But really, she's a visionary love catalyst. And she's devoted most of her life to embodied radiance. Kellita’s received awards for her choreography, teaching, performing, shimmy-shake and academic prowess including Queen of Carnaval San Francisco, Best of the Bay (SF Guardian), Little Miss Aftershock (Burlesque Hall of Fame), and lifetime Phi Beta Kappa membership. When she’s not travelling the globe, you can find her in a nest full of feathers on a hill in Chinatown in San Francisco, reading poetry in the bath while savoring schizandra berry tea.
